Overview
The 12-week Emerging Diplomats Academy aims to train and prepare students and recent graduates for a successful career in foreign policy, international relations, politics or diplomacy. The program starts with a 2-week comprehensive diplomacy and leadership courses in Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and Public-Private Partnership Strategies (PPP) which is followed by a 10-week voluntary internship placement at a Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York City, or a foreign Embassy in Washington, D.C.
Schedule
Week 1
Course 1 — SDGs and UN
Introduction of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the United Nations. Students will get a deep insight into how countries and the UN work together to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs, the role of diplomacy in promoting sustainable development, and resolutions enacted for the UN 2030 Agenda. A deep dive session on the importance of strategic Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) concludes Course 1.
Course 2 — SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 5: Gender Equality
Analysis of Goal 4 and 5 of the SDGs—Quality Education and Gender Equality -- including its significance, actions taken by countries and the UN to promote it, the next steps needed for its achievement etc. Case study involved.
Week 2
Course 3 — SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
Analysis of Goal 8 of the SDGs— Decent Work and Economic Growth, including its significance, actions taken by countries and the UN to promote it, the next steps needed for its achievement etc.
Course 4 — SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
Analysis of Goal 9 of the SDGs—Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, including its significance, actions taken by countries and the UN to promote it, the next steps needed for its achievement etc.
Week 3-12
Internship at UN Permanent Mission or a Foreign Embassy
Now that you finish our diplomacy courses, it is time to apply the skills learned to the field! Your 10-week voluntary internship placement at a Permanent Mission to the United Nations or a Foreign Embassy starts now! You will report directly to a UN Mission / Embassy staff or even an Ambassador depending on your duty station.
After completing the Full 12-Week Program, participants receive their Certificate of Completion at a Luncheon Ceremony at the UN Delegates Dining Room.

Main Tasks
•Research, write and present reports on key topics
• Assist with preparations of key documents
• Update SDG projects with the team on a regular basis
• Occasional attendance to United Nations conferences and events
• Provide administrative support, include data entry, file maintenance, memo taking etc.

The Emerging Diplomats Academy (EDA) Program is by invitation only and spots are highly limited. All applicants are subject to a screening process including interviews.
